"Without Glass. 12 Watercolors by Viachaslau Paulavets"

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus will display the exhibition "Without Glass. 12 Watercolors by Viachaslau Paulavets" from January 14, 2020.

12 watercolors that make up the exhibit display are presented in an unconventional manner for graphic works – without glass. Such, the pieces are unprotected. There are no obstacles between the artist and the viewer. This is not enough between the world and society. The human brain gets a lot of facts and information through the glass of a monitor, a smartphone, a TV. A man’s feelings and emotions are replaced with fakes, simulacra and phantoms of feelings and emotions. However, frankness, sincerity and vulnerability are not weakness, but power, which, together with intuition highlight the way to the essence.

For me as an artist the process of creation is a challenging task. Watercolor painting in the style of alla prima (water base paints on wet paper) makes the author feel emotions during the making of the piece. It begins with having a look at the white paper. It fascinates and scares with its whiteness. Of course, there are some sketches, but time and space disappear, only images, which change each other, as guests of the universe of the subconscious, left. This time it is realized why the artist is called as a creator. You can move clouds in the sky, make forests, rivers, lakes, cut ways and build castles. The main thing is that the painted world does not quite match your plan. Everything is based on spontaneity. Sometimes I do not know what will appear, adding colors and shades, which you are suddenly surprised with. As if something helps you. This is a magical Watercolor. The result on paper is a mysterious code disclosuring the wonder of art, felt and experienced by the artist.

The watercolor is serene, so it is necessary to follow it, listening to its notes and a lightful music. This is similar to calligraphy, an instant picture, created by the master per seconds.

The watercolor is an all-sufficient form of creativity, which absorbed all the best from painting, graphics and wall-painting. The watercolor has shaped my way of life, and ‘flowed’ in life and art.

The exhibition runs at the cafe "Cultural life" until February 17, 2020.
