POINTS OF REALISM. Paintings by Olga Shkarubo and Vadim Bogdan
Art is an exceptionally intimate and individual process. Each artist is on the lookout for his unique style. We are impetuous when making and looking for new themes and ways to implement them following on from the main principles of realism. Our artworks are some kind of experiment with this existing trend. We are trying to find its new aspects in landscape and still life. The paintings present nature images as transformed by the authors’ fantasy. The pictures combine personal life observations with our aesthetic preferences. Each artwork is one more step of self- discovery’, – the artists say about the exhibition and their creative process.
The aspiration of Olga Shkarubo and Vadim Bogdan to interpret images of nature and objective reality as a set of diverse manifestations of life is essential for Belarusian art. The landscape is often symbolic and reflects the painter’s thoughts and emotions, as many events take place in nature’s lap and embodied in the pictures.
Their paintings feature a typical Belarusian character. Mist, twilight, withered autumn grass and a snowy plain celebrate Belarusian thoughtfulness and meditation; fallen leaves – calmness; trees in the wind – energy, strength, patience, the ability to resist the ills of life. Their painting is poetization of everyday life. The motif and essence of the canvases are often philosophical categories.
