Territory of Earthly Hopes. Тraditional Korean painting Minhwa, of the 19th - early 20th century
Territory of Earthly Hopes exhibition will open at the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus on March 8, 2018. The exhibition will feature works of the 19th - early 20th century traditional Korean painting called Minhwa.
“Minhwa” literally translates from the Korean language as “folk painting”. In Korea, it developed simultaneously with the official styles of art, but the Minhwa masters had more freedom of style and could allow themselves some experiments.
The exposition consists of 27 items from the collection of the Gahoe Museum (Seoul). Scrolls and decorative screens consistently reveal the amazing ways of Korean life, in which mythology, religion and traditions are intertwined.
The artistry of the folk painters embodies the country's culture that is rich with symbols and images.
