Ryhor Sitnitsa – Belarusian graphic artist, poet. Winner of the literary award “Polymya” (2001). Winner of the literary prize “Golden Apostrophe” (2007). Winner of the Republican Biennale of Painting, Graphics and Sculpture (2008, 2010, 2013). Awarded the Francysk Skaryna Medal (2012). Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts (2015). Winner of the National Award in the Field of Fine Art (2017).
Belarusian graphic artist Ryhor Sitnitsa was born on January 1, 1958 in the village of Kurycićy, Petrykaŭski District, Homieĺ Region, into a peasant family of Siamion and Nadezhda Sitnitsa. After graduating from the sixth grade of secondary school in his homeland, upon the recommendation of his teacher Ivan Malinouski he was transferred to study in Minsk at the Republican Boarding School of Fine Arts named after Ivan Akhremchik, (graduated in 1976). Then he entered the Department of Graphics of the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute, (graduated in 1982). He studied under Vasil Sharangovich.
Since 1980, he participated in republican, foreign and international exhibitions and literary events. From 1983 to 2008 he worked as a teacher at the Republican College of Art and at the Belarusian Academy of Arts. Ryhor Sitnitsa is known as a poet and publicist, his works were published in Belarusian “Polymya” and “Dzejaslou”, and in foreign editions.
The artist's creativity is characterized by combination of principles of Suprematism and Constructivism in composition, hyper-realistic interpretation of form, and symbolism of the artistic language. The artist’s style assigns the objects depicted in his works meaning of symbols and signs and brings them to the line, where realistic form acquires features of an abstract image.
