Lieanid Shchamialiow. Paintings exhibition is dedicated to the 95th birthday anniversary of the People’s Artist of Belarus and hosts 60 paintings of the 1960s–2000s from the collections of he National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Union of Artists and the Minsk History Museum. The exhibition display represents 70 years Lieanid Shchamialiow’s creative life, his path from a post-war art student to an outstanding master of the 21st century, whose life and destiny serve an example of exceptional human and creative longevity, consistency and dedication to the chosen path.
Lieanid Shchamialiow was born on February 5, 1923 in Viciebsk (Belarus). During the Great Patriotic War he served in the infantry and cavalry and was seriously injured. He studied at the Minsk Art College (1947–1952) under Lew Liejtman and at the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute (1953–1959) under Vital Tsvirko. He participates in group (since 1958) and personal (since 1962) exhibitions. In 2003, the City Art Gallery of works by Lieanid Shchamialiow was opened in Minsk. He is the People's Artist of Belarus, Holder of the Order of Francysk Skaryna and Laureate of the State Prize of Belarus and the Union State Prize.
