Opening of the exhibition “A prophet of his time. Adam Mickiewicz. Illustrations and medals” at “The Wankowiczes' House. Culture and Art of the first half of the 19th century” Museum
An opening of the exhibition “A prophet of his time. Adam Mickiewicz. Illustrations and medals” will be held on February 11, 2015 at 4 p.m. at the branch of the National Art museum of the Republic of Belarus “The Wankowiczes' House. Culture and Art of the first half of the 19th century” Museum (33A, Internatsionalnaya str.).
The exhibition, that counts 23 exhibits, was formed on the initiative of the Embassy of Belarus in France and of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Pavel Latushko in person, of Adam Mickiewicz Museum in Paris and the Polish historical and literary Society in Paris. Among the museum pieces there will be on display 6 commemorative medals dedicated to Adam Mickiewicz (1798–1855), 16 original engravings to Adam Mickiewicz’s works: “Pani Twardowska” (1822), “Grazyna” (1823) “Conrad Vallenrod” (1828) and the book by Adam Mickiewicz “Slavs” which included the lectures given by poet in the 1842–1844 at the College de France.
Within the exhibition opening, a solemn presentation of copy portrait of a famous pianist, composer and musical figure of the first half of the 19th century Maria Szymanowska (1789–1831) by a well-known Belarusian painter Victor Alshevsky (b. 1953) will be also held in this evening. The original of portrait by Valentiy Vankovich (1800–1842) houses the Polish Library in Paris.
