CHORDS OF SPACE AND TIME
CHORDS OF SPACE AND TIME
The exhibition dedicated to the 60th anniversary
of the birth of Vladimir Ivanovich Prokoptsov
and the 15th anniversary of his activities as director of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus
From time to time the artist has a need for stopping, looking around, seeing how and what is done, for laying down the guidelines to be in progress. To do this there are exhibitions which answer many questions.
In this respect, the idea of organizing the exhibition of Vladimir Prokoptsov “Chords of Space and Time” is an original and unusual art event. The exhibition presents the works created during different years. The author would like to show and convey a sense of his creativity in time, freed from old stereotypes and traditional rituals. He is a romantic at heart, despite his official and social position, which, of course, requires certain pragmatism.
As for him, painting is a way and an opportunity to depict intensity of his emotions and thoughts on a canvas. The paintings by Vladimir Prokoptsov are combination of subjective and lyrical, rational and pragmatic origin. This unity helps to create complete images, making them aesthetically significant. Vladimir Prokoptsov as an organizer and analyst makes a composition, filling it with sense, but he as a lyric poet and romantic puts his heart into it. This makes the image more complicated. These two guises are skillfully and harmoniously balanced.
The author’s exhibition works are evidence of the constant creative process and self-culture. He broadens his horizons, and his artistic vision gets features of universality. A fleeting image or an insignificant detail turn us to memories of something already half-forgotten, prompting to think of the implication of natural phenomena.
The romantic and sometimes sentimental canvases reflect the charm of half-forgotten notions of good and authentic feelings, old and simple truths. Occasionally, his works are full of bitter disappointment. However, his paintings are far from moralizing and glitz. The author prefers to depict lyrism and heartiness in his paintings.
The painter often turns to the landscape that is not a depictive genre for him, where details eclipse the main thing. The author’s painting is an echo of memory, sounding in the paintings from time to time. The master feels reality through subjective sensations. He can make significant generalizations of everyday life, and focus on some actual problems of modern times. The world of his childhood is recreated as a dream. It reflects idealization, fabulousness and simplicity. The artistic language reveals the author’s fantasy. It is full of hints and intellectual content.
Chronology is not important for Vladimir Prokoptsov’s creativity, although significant changes in public consciousness have taken place in the past decades. Spiritual life and culture also have been changed. The painter could keep his poetic soul despite all these changes. The author’s own convictions are very important for him: he prefers to keep a distance between the subjective world of creativity and reality. However, the image of the painter is the main thing for the audience. The paintings by Vladimir Prokoptsov tell about the author’s time and personality more than any verbal interpretations. In particular, these works reflect their creator’s essence, because he is more sincere and direct here. Creating the fictional world based on reality, the world in which his soul lives, the world filled with genuine emotions and feelings, the painter appears in his true image.
Painter Vladimir Prokoptsov leaves his mark in time, providing the viewer with his wonderful creativity.
