THE ‘FREE MUSEUM’ IS OPENING IN THE CENTER OF MINSK

ON JUNE 30 THE EXHIBITION OF PORTRAITS OF PROMINENT CITIZENS OF MINSK FROM THE FUNDS OF THE NATIONAL ART MUSEUM OF THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS WILL BE ON DISPLAY AT THE FREEDOM SQUARE

          The Free Museum: Urban Legends is the project about the people who lived and worked in Minsk and left the bright trace in its history. This is a story about the heroes of today whose achievements we can and should be proud of. They are scientists, sportsmen, inventors and representatives of the creative intelligentsia – painters, writers, composers, film makers, artists and other legendary, but unknown to a wider audience city people.

          The venue for the exhibition, the Freedom Square, is not an accidental choice. According to the curators, this space reflects the entire Minsk identity – the way the locals and tourists feel the city spirit and uniqueness. The exhibition features 20 masterpiece reproductions (portraits) from the collection of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus. The pieces will be placed into strong and light constructions and will be accompanied with explications. Each portrait is supplied by a story about represented person. The urban exhibition will be on display until the end of September.

          The curators of the project are going to pay much attention to the educational program, i.e. aesthetical and cultural education of the viewers. As part of the project the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus organizes free film representations in its halls as well as other events to support the exhibition.

          The project is realized by the Kultprosvet communication agency in cooperation with the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus and with the support of the Minsk City Executive Committee. The general partner of the exhibition is OAO Lidskoe Pivo.
