The exhibition «Slutsk belts» takes place at the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus from May 5 till April 22, 2009.
Slutsk belts are known all over the world as the Belarusian national relic, as a symbol of the nation. They present a unique variety of hand weaving. Skilfully weaved belts were created at the local manufactories from the mid-18th to the first half of the 19th century. The most famous manufactory was in Slutsk (now Minsk Oblast).
The exhibition presents the belts from the collections of the State Historical Museum (Moscow) and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus. The collection was donated to the State Historical Museum by the well-known Russian collector and patron Pyotr Shchukin (1853–1912) in 1905.
