“Apocalypse is Cancelled…”
On May 18th, 2012 the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus will take part in the international art-project “Night of Museums” for the eighth time.
The first action “Museum Spring” was carried out in 1999 on the initiative of the Ministry for culture and communication of France and was timed to the International Museum Day on May 18th. In 2001 already 39 countries of Europe and America took part in the action, and in 2005 when museums opened their doors for visitors in the evening and in the night. The “Museum Spring” turned into the “Night of Museums”. Now once a year museums not only invite everybody who would like to see the museum in an unusual time of the day but also prepare a special art-programme turning the night before May 18th into an elite art holiday. The action “Night of Museums” is international and is carried out in over 50 countries of Europe.
In 2012 the “Night of Museums” will be held in the night from May 18th till May 19th and will continue the International Museum Day – the holiday which will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2012.
The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus took part in the “Night of Museums” in 2005 for the first time. About 2,000 people visited the museum in the 5 hours of the action. The “Night” has become the brightest museum event of the country. More and more people try to see it every year. For example, about 5,000 people visited the National Art Museum in 2007, about 8,000 – in 2009, over 10,000 people – in 2010 and 2011.
On May 18th, 2012 from 7 pm till 1 am the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus will offer those who live in Minsk and our capital’s guests to pour a bit of their light on the action “Apocalypse is Cancelled…”
