Museum Stories

December 7, 2016 - January 11, 2017

The end of a year is traditionally the time to reckon up and the National Art Museum has always much to say. December sees the launching of a new lecture course developed by the team of Museum Lectureship Project. This time nothing less but the soul of the museum will be under discussion, i.e. its treasurable collection. It is widely known that every Wednesday at 7 p.m. we open our doors for those who search for knowledge about art and culture, but this special Christmas time is the very period to speak about special things.

Much time, efforts and life intricacies were needed to collect the artworks available in the space of the National Art Museum. Today the collection includes numerous significant names: Ivan Shishkin, Ivan Aivazovsky, Mikhail Vrubel, Yudel Pen, Ivan Khrutsky… without speaking of the unique examples of Belarusian avante-garde of the 1920s, the gallery of Sarmatian portraits and the exclusively rich collection of Belarusian icon school. Within six lectures the researchers of the museum will speak about museum expeditions, unexpected gifts from abroad, covert intrigues of BSSR Art Committee and rivalry with the major Soviet museums… to cut a long story short, the hunt for treasures will be in focus during this lecture programme.
