Palette of Memory
This exhibition is dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the fascist aggressors. The exposition included works of painting, graphic arts, sculpture by the Belarusian artists from the museum collection. They were created in the mid-forties – first half of the 1980s, within four decades when the war theme was the main one in the Belarusian art.
During these years there were obvious substantial and formal changes in the embodiment of the theme of war. The art of the 1940–1950s is distinguished by the tendency to transmission of a concrete episode, even if it is imagined, with maximum external likelihood in stylistics of realism of the 2nd half of the 19th century. In the 1960s artists aspire to create generalised, typified, some kind of emblems of events, where expressiveness of art means gets unprecedented earlier weightiness, which underlines internal, emotional component of the phenomenon. Composition, line, and colour show both life realities and their active interpretation by artist. In the 1970-1980s degree of emotional heat decreases, memory became the main "character". War is depicted as if through smoke of time or a prism of world culture or evidences and witnesses of war in the present. Original elegy characterises works of artists of younger generation, who show the war events according to their impressions of stories, films, literature, and own life notions.
The exhibition is built basically according to the chronology of art though there are different art styles. From our point of view, this contrast underlines the originality of each work and can create new perusals of the contest.
Two small personal anniversary expositions of works by Lazar Ran are included in an exhibition (100 years from the date of the birth) and Ludwig Asetskogo (80 years from the date of the birth). They are talented and original masters, who brought considerable contribution to the representation of events of the Great Patriotic War. These “exhibitions in the exhibition” underdraw the main in the artists’ attitude interpretation and perception of the world.
This year on July, 3 an outstanding artist Fyodor Baranovsky celebrates his 85th birthday anniversary. One of his the most known works "Bath" is presented in the exhibition. Here the artist shows the protest against the war ruining young lives.
