Israil Basov. Return to the City

Israil Basov was born on October 7, 1918 in Mstislavl, Mogilyov Gyberniya. The artist died on August 4, 1994 in Minsk.
He studied at the Minsk Art College (1947–1951) under Ivan Akhremchik, Khaim Livshits, and Vitaly Tsvirko. Basov participated in exhibitions since 1953.
This is the third personal exhibition of the master’s works. Two previous shows were also hold after the artist’s dead. His pictures weren’t asked-for during the lifetime. They were too different from the works of the other artists. Master’s desire to be in line with personal perception of the world led him to the cultural Underground, made him a marginal person in the Belarusian Soviet art. Probably it was the reason why his pictures were not displayed.

All human feelings of love and life tensity, inspiration and compassion are embodied in Israil Basov’s pictures. Concrete impressions are condensed to a symbol or an emblem in his works. Even so they didn’t lose their semantic meaning and emotional completeness.
