The Museum of Vitold Byalynitsky-Birulya The Museum of Vitold Byalynitsky-Birulya

MUSEUM OF V. BYALYNITSKY-BIRULYA

Museum of Vitold Belynitsky-Birulya was open on December, 24, 1982. This is the first memorial museum in the republic, dedicated to the life and creative activity of the artist.

The house, in which was born the artist in a small settle Krynki near Belynichi of Mogilev gubernia in 1872, was not preserved. So, the decision was taken to open the Museum in Mogilev and place it in a stone two-story mansion with a mansard, monument of the civil architecture of the 17th centrury, on Lenin street, 37.

To time of the opening of the branch the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus had in their own funds nearly five hundred works of art of People's Artist of the BSSR and RSFSR Belynitsky-Birulya, with great diligence and love collected by the Director of the State Art Gallery, Honoured figure of art of the BSSR Elena Aladova. This collection - single in its fullness and artistic value collection of works of the remarkable landscape painter. Besides, widow of the artist Elena Alekseevna has sent in grant to the museum many documentary materials, photographies and personal things, earlier found in the "Sea gull", house-workshop of the artist ashore of the Udomlya lake: painter's case, palette, brushes; hunter's gun - is a certificate of the personal passion to hunt; furniture made in Abramtsevo workshop; the unique letter of I. Repin, in which the great Russian painter wrote about its delight by works of the young landscape painter. All this has allowed to create quite solid memorial section of the Museum, which occupies the whole ground floor of the building.

Special interest presents photographies. They tell about the relatives of Vitold, his family, show the artist at different years of his life - as a child, a pupil of the Kiev Cadet School, at work with the easel, with his daughter Lyubochka, among friends, with the well-known Russian artists on celebration of the 40th anniversary of the mobile artistic exhibitions, with a group of the Belarusian artists in Minsk, with the well-known masters of the Soviet art in the halls of the Museum of the Academy of Art in Leningrad.

Originals and copies of the miscellaneous documents tell about the years of education in Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, about participation in the creative contests, exhibitions, about reception of the honourable ranks and awards.  Museum has a medal of the exhibition in Barcelona for picture "Winter Dream", orders of the USSR, as well as diplomas, complimentary addresses, signed by the outstanding masters of the fine arts, publications, denoted to the creative activity of Belynitsky-Birulya.

Among the exhibits of the memorial section can be found works of the artists - close friends of V. Belynitsky-Birulya: portrait of the mother of the artist A.R. Belynitskaya-Birulya, painted in 1894 by N. Ulyanov; portraits of V. Belynitsky-Birulya, made by A. Moravov (1908), M. Zaytsev (1922), F. Modorov (1950); landscapes showing "Sea gull" house-workshop and vicinities of the Udomlya lake .

The first floor of the museum is completely occupied by the works of V. Belynitsky-Birulya. More than one hundred canvases, finished pictures and small studies, placed in light ample halls, give full picture of the creative activity of the prominent painter, remarkable master of the lyrical landscape.

The roots of Belynitsky-Birulya's art lie, certainly, in nature of the native Belarus, its timid beauty, simple motives, soft calm colours forever fell into the soul of the artist and have defined the distinctive qualities of his art, the whole emotional formation of his works. To Belynitsky-Birulya belongs masterfully painted winter, summer, golden autumn landscapes. But most of all he was worried by spring nature, its awakening from winter sleep, the first verdure and its wild blooming. Addressing to the concrete landscape plot, master strived, first of all, to show the condition of nature, which depends on times of the year, time of the day, sunshine, to show those emotions, which the person feels, communicating with nature.

In 1912 Vitold  has gained the area of land in Tver gubernia ashore the Udomlya lake  and has built the house with a workshop. He has named his small homestead "Sea gull". Great part of the creative and private life of the master is bound with "Sea gull". Many of the well-known canvases of the painter, including his well-known picture "Hour of the Silence. The Lake of Udomlya" (1911) were  created exactly there.

Works, created at the Soviet time occupy the great part of the exhibition. In the 20s and 30s, enthusiastic about that new that occurs around him, Belynitsky-Birulya much travels around the country. He is interested in the first experiences on reconstruction of the agriculture in the state farm "Giant" and commune "Seybit", construction of "Azovstal", transformations of the North. Thrice - in 1933, 1935 and 1937 - he visited the Polar lands. Certain pictures, presented at the exhibition certifies about these trips. In spite of thematic basis of these works, the lyric poetical beginning, going from the talent of the artist, his world outlooks, prevail in them .

Canvases "Blue Spring" (1942), "Spring Silence" (1943), pictures with scenes of the monuments of the Russian wooden architecture - "Nine-cupolas Wooden Church", "ZachatiyeVillage ", "Ratonavolok. Old Church", "Mill on the North Dvina" (all - 1944) can be found in the exhibition. They have beauty of the native land and worship before cultural heritage of the folk. Exactly so the artist-citizen has expressed his devotion to the Motherland, boundless love to it at the years of the Great Patriotic War .

Vitold Belynitsky-Birulya - is one of creators of the memorial landscape genre. His works contain scenes of the memorable places, connecting with life of the known figures of the Russian history and culture, such as L. Tolstoy, A. Pushkin, P. Chaikovsky and others. This side of the creative activity of the artist is presented in pictures, denoted to Pushkin's places - "Mikhailovskoe. The House of the Pushkin's Nanny Arina Rodionovna", "Svyatogorsk Priory. The Grave of A.S. Pushkin", "Trigorskoe. The Birch at the Sorot River" (all - 1936), "Autumn Days. Trigorskoe. The Sorot River " (1952). Poetic and lyricism of the pictures, musicality of their picturesque decision assonant to the inspired poetry of Pushkin.

1947 was particularly significant in the creative biography of V. Belynitsky-Birulya: he was assigned to the rank of the People's Artist of the RSFSR (the rank of the People's Artist of the BSSR he has got after 1944), he was elected the member of the Academy of Art of the USSR. The important event of the year was arrival of Vitold Belynitsky-Birulya to Belarus for the first time in many years. Since May and till the middle of  June the artist lived and worked at White Dacha in the vicinity of Minsk. He painted several dozens of studies there, which became the basis of the cycle of pictures, denoted to Belarus.  Exactly there, in the vicinity of Minsk, motive for picture "Belarus. New Bloom of Spring" was found, its emotional content is subordinated to the main thought of the author - life triumphs, it has won the death, destructions. This canvas - is one of central in the exhibition.

Vitold Belynitsky-Birulya untiringly worked till the end of their own days .  He died at the age of 85. From his last pictures  it is exhibited  in the museum "Last Snow. Sea gull" (1950), "Blooming Flax " (1950-1951), "Here Came the Spring Again" (1951), "Evening of the Early Spring" (1954), "Birches" (1955).
