Candidate of Art History (1984). Honorary International Member of the Russian Academy of Arts since 2007. Laureate (among the museum research assistants) of the special President’s of the Republic of Belarus Prize in nomination “Museum Work” (2008).
Was born on August 8, 1953 in the village Zhgunskaya Buda, Dobrush Rayon, Gomel Oblast. Studied at the Vitebsk State Pedagogical Institute (1970–1975, Art and Graphic Department) under Ivan Stolyarov, Feliks Gumen; took postgraduate course at the Institute of Art Study, Ethnography and Folklore of the Academy of Science of Belarus (1977–1979).
Worked as a research associate at the Institute of Art Study, Ethnography and Folklore of the Academy of Science of Belarus (1977–1982). Head of the Department of Culture of the Central Committee of LKSM (Leninskiy Kommunisticheskiy Soyuz Molodyozhi) of Belarus (1982–1986).
Director of the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus since 1998.
Member of the Belarusian Artists Union since 1984 (Section of Art History), the Belarusian Literature and Art Critics Union since 1997. Participant of exhibitions since 1986.
Lives in Minsk.
His works are kept at the museums of the Republic of Belarus, funds of the Belarusian Artists Union, private collections. Vladimir Prokoptsov is the author of books “Ninel Schastnaya” (1984), “In Search of Beauty and Harmony” (1988), “Nikolai Ryzhenkov” (1989); articles about the problems of the monumental and decorative art for periodical editions; parts of “History of the Belarusian Art” in 6 volumes.
